Know, Grow, Go

Rev. Paul Seay

Rebecca and I have been married 27 years and have four children and six grandchildren.  Although I was called into the ministry as a teenager I ran from God's call for many years before allowing God to lead me in the way He wanted me to go.  Becca and I both were raised in the United Mehodist Church.  In my time here at Central Avenue, I have found this to be a welcoming church with a heart for God's work in our community.  I welcome you to join us at any of our services.

Chancel, Children, Youth & Adult Handbell Choir Director

As a student at Arkansas College, now Lyon College, majoring in music, my natural desire was to be involved in music on a performance level but not as a teacher of music.  I had to eat those words.  During my senior year, a college friend of mine accepted the position of Children's Choir Director and Handbell Director at Central Avenue UMC and invited me to accompany the singing choir on piano each Wednesday, participate in the handbell choir and enjoy the wonderful food at the weekly potluck.  As they say, "the rest is history."  I have been blessed to serve as a staff member and a part of this wonderful church family since the fall of 1982.  Please feel welcome to join us anytime as we ring and sing for Christ.

Cindy and Lannie Barber

Youth Directors

We have been married 24 years and are parents of three children: Britton, 23 (wife Emma); Emily, 14; and Allison, soon to be 3.  But our extended family includes all of the members of the Central Avenue United Methodist Youth (UMY).  This organization is a diverse group of young people from 5th grade through 12th grade, who share a love of Christ and a desire to grow in faith.  We have LOTS of fun, we work hard, and we strive to be in service and mission to our church, our community, and our world. Some of our projects include Nothing But Nets, Unicef, and Methodist Family Health.  We work regularly at Help and Hope and prepare a skit each year for our church’s Joy to the Children. providing Christmas cheer for area children.  We serve as acolytes, crucifers, and liturgists during morning worship, and share devotionals and discussions at our youth meetings to learn more about our faith and our relationship with Jesus Christ.  And we love to spend time together playing games, going ice skating, making trips to the mall, and just hanging out.  If you want to grow closer to God and spend time learning, serving, and having fun with a great group of young people who will accept you for YOU, come join us every Sunday night at 5:00 in the Family Life Center!

Cindy Barber

As a church musician since the age of 16, my “part-time job” all these years has given me the opportunity to be a part of so many sacred moments in the lives of my brothers and sisters in Christ. From infant baptisms to confirmation services to weddings and funerals, I am blessed by each and every one of these events and my faith is continually affirmed and nourished. I look forward every Sunday to seeing the loving faces of my church family from my place on the organ bench. Working with the Chancel Choir, my goal is to enhance every worship service, and to think of my music not as a performance, but as a means of praise. Come and join us this Sunday as we make a joyful noise to the Lord!
